Otter.ai Crashes Hard

I stumbled upon Otter.ai while hunting for a quick transcription app to handle my meeting notes, and I figured it'd be worth a shot. It crashed twice right in my first session, which was a real letdown. I expect way more stability from something that calls itself 'Pro', especially when I've worked on production ML systems where downtime isn't an option. Though it might work for the simplest tasks, it's just not reliable enough. Overall, this tool doesn't push the field forward at all and falls short of what big labs rely on internally.

Good Transcription, Crowded Space

Otter was my go-to before Fireflies and Voicenotes came along. The live transcription is still excellent and the speaker identification works well in meetings under 6 people. But the AI features feel bolted on rather than integrated, and the free tier got pretty limited recently. Still solid if you just need transcripts.

Otter.ai's real-time transcription and automated summaries use machine learning for speech recognition, making it a practical aid for meetings in sales and education. However, accuracy can falter with accents or background noise, a common ML tradeoff that requires users to double-check outputs. It's a solid tool for teams seeking efficiency with caveats.
